CARLO GOZZI

TURANDOT

2h 40min (with intermission) | Duża Scena

Is this the story of a feminist heroine pitted against a man who has something to prove to himself or the story of a cruel princess and a brave prince?
It is, no doubt, a timeless battle of the sexes, where human beings overflowing with contradictions are not always able to fulfil romantic visions of love.
Based on a Chinese fable, Ondrej Spišák’s play masterfully explores theatre conventions from commedia dell’arte to circus tradition. The poet, Jarosław Mikołajewski, translated Carlo Gozzi’s text, giving full power to the written word. Humorous intermezzi spice up scene changes with jabs at current affairs.
