Tadeusz Słobodzianek
Director of the Dramatic Theatre of Warsaw (since 2013)The creator and artistic director of the Laboratory of Drama (Laboratorium Dramatu), the director of the Tadeusz Łomnicki Theatre in Wola in the years 2010-2012, theatrical critic, director and producer. He graduated from Theatre Studies at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow. In the years 1978-1981 he was writing theatrical reviews under the pseudonym Jan Koniecpolski in two magazines: Student and Polityka. In 1981 he made his debut as a playwright with a play for children Baśń jesienna (Autumn fairy tale), directed by Rudolf Zioło in the Wojciech Bogusławski Theatre in Kalisz, and later in 1982 he directed his first play Osmędeusze. Kabaret Kici Koci written by Miron Białoszewski, also in the Wojciech Bogusławski Theatre in Kalisz. As a dramaturg and director he collaborated with theatres in Warsaw, Cracow, Łódź, Poznań, Gdańsk, Kalisz and Białystok. In 1991 he was one of the co-founders of the Theatre Wierszalin. He is an author of plays, such as: Car Mikołaj/Tzar Mikołaj (1985), Obywatel Pekosiewicz/Citizen Pekosiewicz (1986), Turlajgorszek (1990), Prorok Ilja/Prophet Ilja (1992), Merlin. Inna historia/Merlin. A Different Story (1992), Kowal Malambo/Blacksmith Malambo (1992), Sen pluskwy/A bedbug’s dream (2001), Śmierć proroka/The Death of a Prophet (2011), Młody Stalin/Young Stalin (2013), Niedźwiedź Wojtek/Voytek the Bear (2016), Historia Jakuba/The Story of Jakub (2017), which have been realized by: Kazimierz Dejmek, Mikołaj Grabowski, Maciej Prus, Ondrej Spisak, Piotr Tomaszuk, Andrzej Woron, Gabor Mate, Hanan Snir, Yana Ross, Bijan Shejbani, Natalie Ringler, Michael Gieleta. He is a laureate of many different prizes, such as: Nagroda Fundacji Kultury Wiejskiej im. Stanisława Piętaka (The Foundation of the Rural Culture Award), for the play Prophet Ilja, Nagroda Literacka Fundacji im. Kościelskich (Literary Award of the Kościelskich Foundation), and the Passport of the magazine Polityka for his achievements in Theatre. For his play Nasza klasa. Historia w XIV lekcjach/Our class. History in XIV lessons, which private viewing took place in the National Theatre in London, he has received the Nike Literary Award 2010. The founder of the first polish school of playwrights (The School of Dramas). His plays have been stage in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Japan, Spain, Germany, Israel, Hungary, Brazil, Macedonia, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Italy.
